I've never been one of those writers blessed enough to be able to write multiple projects and multiple genres at once. When it comes to the characters, situations and worlds that pop into my head, I pretty much go all in, but only one at a time. This time though, something feels different. I'm working on Lainey Abbott Book 3, 'The Company You Keep' about another murder that, for Lainey hits a little bit too close to home, threatening to send her spiraling once again, just as her life seems to be coming together despite her sister's unsolved murder. And it's going pretty smoothly, except for one essential element: I'm conflicted about who done it. And yeah ... we can't have that. Not only because this is the final book in the series, but because a whodunnit that's ambivalent about who actually done it, will not fly. I pondered writing two alternate endings and making a game-time decision about which to use, but why complicate matters?

So, I'm taking a short hiatus from that book, and have turned to my other project temporarily; one I alluded to a while ago when I said I was in the mood for love? Yeah, so I'm writing a series of what I'm calling New Shorts. They will, at least initially be available ONLY on my website, so if you're not a member, now would be the time to join. Just go to NiaForrester.com homepage and click the Log In/Join Now link in the upper righthand side of the Menu. Joining the site is free, of course, because who am I? Beyoncé?
You'll be able to download and purchase directly from me. Since these will be "shorts" I hope to have more than a few done by spring 2025, with this one, the first, coming soon. Here's a key feature of the New Shorts, and one I'm admittedly a little conflicted about: it's the first time I've ever used AI covers. That's part of my reasoning for not selling more broadly at least for now. I'm still mulling over the ethics of the art form in my own mind. I guess you could say I have one foot in the future, and another stubbornly rooted in the past until this whole ethical debate plays out in my own mind. But, back to the New Shorts. They're going to be much more male-centered than some of my work in the past, and definitely relationship-focused though maybe not always 'romantic'. This one, 'A Danger to Himself and Others' I hope you'll enjoy when it comes out.
About the novella: Evan "Ace" Bondurant and Iris Miller have known each other for as long as either of them can remember. He was the scruffy, reckless boy with the piercing eyes, living down a dirt road with a brood of other foster kids. And Iris was the quiet, quirky girl who endured taunts of “weirdo” following her down the hallways of their small-town school.
Now Ace and Iris are back where they got their start—he’s a star athlete and she’s a renowned artist—both reeling from bruising experiences with fame and notoriety. All Iris seeks is peace, and Ace craves redemption.
Maybe they’ll find exactly what they need in each other.
If you navigated here from a post on socials, remember you'll need to join my site to buy when the novella is released! No time like the present. Join now!
Happy Reading!
